The Turks and Caicos Islands are a dependent territory of the United Kingdom and consists of 30 individual islands of which only 8 are inhabited. They are located at geographic location 21 45 N, 71 35 W in the Caribbean South East of the Bahamas.
Providenciales is among the larger inhabited islands and is where the major resorts reside. Provo - as the locals call it (no need hurting yourself) - has many attractions to boast about:
- Grace Bay - perhaps one of the most beautiful 12 miles of white sand beach in the Caribbean.
- Unparalleled Diving - rated as one of the top 10 diving spots in the world.
- Beautiful Resorts - Provo boasts some of the finest resorts in the Caribbean.
- World Class Restaurants - Be sure to check out the Gecko Grill and the Anacaona Restaurants.
- Peace - One of the greatest attributes of Provo is the ability to kick back, relax and enjoy the natural beauty.
What Provo Doesn't Have
- Traffic Jams - While we do have autos on the island, you can get around on bicycle quite easily. Don't peddle too fast - max speed is 40mph.
- Crime - Forget what you have heard about other islands in the Caribbean - Provo is virtually crime free.
- Bad Weather - with only 40 inches of rain each year, you are practically assured of returning with a killer tan.
- Rude Locals - The people of Provo (they are called belongers) are among the friendliest anywhere.
Some other useful information:
- The national language is English.
- The currency is the U.S. Dollar.
- The electricity is the U.S. standard 120v 60hz
